According to research taken out by scientists boys prefer to read fantasy and scientific novels than any other kind.
The reasons for this is that many boys like to read books that involve stories that have action and strange events that lead to action. Boys also like to read stories that are not straight forward so that they dont get boared after a short period of time. Finally the fantasy part of the story means that the boys who read it can picture things a little different than what they should be.
I believe that this does realate to me in some aspects but not in others. First of all i prefer to read war books and action books, but the genre of fantasy can lead to action and war.
The point of view that boys prefer science fiction booke to other genres is hard to compare to other styles of books as everyone is different and therefore enjoy different books as and genres. I know that in my family my brother much prefers to read stories that involve science fiction caharcters but my dad would rather read non-fiction stories about other people.
My favourite genre would have to be action because i enjoy reading about big battle scenes and also read about how the characters feel in them. e.g. stories about gallipoli.

poetry final response.
Peotry has remained as a very popular past time over the centuries through the gererations because of the way it is written. Poetry unlike prose appeals to many people with its catchy rhymes and fast flowing lyrics. In todays society poetry has remained very popular because it has been incorparated into many peoples favourite pastimes such as listening to music and watching tv, in which poetry is used in adds.
The most popular form of poetry nowdays are music which just about every person in the world listens to, this is because the poetry is added with drums and guitars and many other musical instruments.
poetry plays many roles in todays society including being used in tv adverts, newspaper adverts, lyrics and birthday cards.
I believe that the reason that poetry appeals to so many people is that it is catchy and easy to read. It also can add humour to birthday cards stories and songs. For many people peotry appeals to them because it is a relaxing thing to read and helps them unwind after a long day.
The poetry that i enjoy most would certainly be reading comedic poetry which involves jokes and smart rhyming.
A poem that i know about is twinkle twinlke little star. I am not sure who it was written by but i know it was written a long time ago and is featured in many childeren rhyming books. This poem is a childerens poem and it is memorable to me because as i young child i used to love reading peoms and this was my favourite because it had actions with it.
cheers for reading.

POETRY
i believe that The qoutation at the top of the page means that peotry is vital in life and is very important to the human race as it adds compassion to a 'cold' world.
i partly believe the statement that is made, this is because some people may live for poetry and believe that it is important but then some other people may not feel the same way. Also some people may not believe in love and compassoin, for example cold killers.
The two examples of poetry that i collected last night are the lyrics from the paint supplies add that is shown regurarly on tv and a poem that i found about a deceased family member in the advertiser.
The purpose of writing these two things as poems and not as prose is that in the paint supplies add it adds a catchy tune to the add catching peoples eyes. With the peom for the deceased family member it adds depth to the sorry of the family is feeling, through using poetry the family can also cover the deceased persons values quite quickly.

You tube clip
Today in class i watched a youtube video clip abou the worlds progress. The clip made me astounded with how well the world has progresses in the last 20 years, and how fast it still is advancing. I believe that the most interesting fact on this clip was that 100% of all indian University graduates speak English. This is amazing for a non english speaking country.
Although some of the information in this slide was outstanding i believe that it was believeable and correct because the world is advancing at such a dramatic rate.
in regard to my own life this clip made me feel very lucky to be living in Australia where we do not have some of the problems that the lesser countries experience. It also made me feel asthough Australians are being left behing by the developing countries like India.

DRUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs
i believe that elite sports people using drugs is completely wrong and sends a really bad message toward young atheletes who want to aspire to be their best. I personally believe that it is never right for a professional sportsman to use drugs unless their health demands they be used (mental disabilities). Although these drugs will not necessarly effect the atheletes ability to perform in a positive way is still sends the wrong messae to young childeren.
I think that random drug tests should reqularly run in high level sports to ensure that all atheletes are following the rules properly. Anyone that is caught using drugs should face immediate fines and suspension, including rehab. I do not think that clubs who find their players in violation should remove them from the club as this may just make them want to use the drug more and enter a downward spiral.
dont take drugs! YEA

book or movie???
Today i am going to talk about the great debacle which is better the book or the movie of the book.
Personally i believe that the book is a much better option that than the movie version of it. Many books are hundreds of pages long and are very indepth about the attitudes of the characters their feelings and the chalanges they face. Another advantage of the book is that the Author can put in as much information as they like.
A movie on the other hand cannot go into the same depth as a book as they only have a limited amount of time to get the story across to the audience. In a movie there is not enough time to explain how the characters feel, also in a movie many smaller scenes are not incorparated and much of the time is spent in battle scenes. This is bad as it is normally the smaller scenes that are what brings the story to life.
A good example of a book being better than the movie was in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. During the book Harry the main character learns much about a creature that is much like an lobster but sends out electric jolts. Later in the story Harry has to face the creatures in a maze where he defeats them after having so much practice against them. In the movie the dangerous creatures that harry has so much to do with are not mentioned at all. When it comes to the maze scene it is very boring as harry has nothing to face.
This is why i like books much better than their movie partner.

Today i am goin to talk about the new rules that have been put forward for the Austrlian Football league.
From when AFL began back in the 1980's there have been many adaptions to the rules of australian football which has consequently changed the way it has been played. The newest rule that hase come under some critisism has been the hands in the back rule that was altered at the start of this season. The new hands in the back rule states that and contact in someones back during a marking contest will result in a free kick.
This new rule i believe is a good rule that rewards the man in front position and also stops the bigger players form pushing the smaller player out of the contests.

The Race To Dakar!!!!
Today the manuscript that i will be talking about is called "Race To Dakar" and was written by Charlie Boorman a infamous British actor. This story is all about Charlie and his ups and downs in learning how to ride an off road motorbike and preparing for the Paris Dakar race which is the worlds toughest enduro. The story explores what is needed to enter the race and that you do not have to be skillful to finish but have pure determination.
I believe that this story will appeal to people who are fans of motor racing and probably to teenage boys who like to hear about big crashes and fast racing. The story would also be a good read for those people who whish to be inspired by the hard work put in by another person in their strive to reach their ultamate gaol.
This book is very inspiring and i believe that this story if published would sell very well as as i have stated before people like to read about other people working hard to reach goals. The Author Charlie Boorman does a great job in explaining the conditions that he faced during his trip, the information is so exact it makes it very easy for the reader to imagine themself in his position. Another reason that i believe that Charlies book should be published is that he has already produced one book called "the long way round" which is about a motorbike trip he went on in 2004m, this book sold very well and has been recommended for many awards.
The manuscript"Race to Dakar" by Charlie Boorman was an excellent read and i believe that it is very important that this be published into a book so that others have the chance to experience it.

peak Adventure.
Next week i am going on Peak Adventure and have chosen white water rafting on the Mitta Mitta River in Victorian Alpine region. I chose this activity because ui have experienced it before and it was so good i wanted to try it again. I think that the most challenging part of this camp will be the trying to stay warm as it is forecasted to be very wet and below zero at night. The most challenging part of the trip will be getting to sleep on the bus and not getting too bored as it s a very long trip over to the river. The best part of the adventure will be just hanging around with my mates along with the rafting on the river, and watching people falling in the river! I think that it is important to challeng yourself and get out of your comfort zone every now and then as if you dont you will never know your full potential at something. Also after initially fearing what you are about to do you many really enjoy the experience.
Cheers Jack.
Cheers Jack.

On Thursday in class we began learning about William Shakespeare. Before Thursday i had never read any poetry by Shakespeare but a had heard about his plays such as Macbeth. I think the reason why i hadn't read any of Shakespeare's work is that it is hard to understand. I also have never watched any of Shakespeare's plays as they usually run for a very long time and there are not alot of productions in the country of his work.
I have never read any of Shakespeare's play mainly through choice as it would be quite challenging and boring, also the school that i used to attend did not make us read any of his plays or work in English.
I have only ever watched one modern movie of Shakespeare's work which was 10 things that i hate about you i think that this was quite a good movie but did not relate very well to Shakespeare's work.
Since we began looking at Shakespeare last Thursday i have learn much about Shakespeare's work and life. I did not know that he had written so many plays and scripts for theater companies and for himself. I was also quite surprised to find out that he did not attend schooling for as long as he could have as his grammar and spelling was very good.
I don't believe that i would take part in the play that Mr s is putting on later in the year purely as i am not a drama sort of person and i have never taken interest in the play beforehand which would make acting much easier.
Mentioning the play Macbeth in a theater is bad luck as it is believed that if said a bad performance will be put on by the actors and people will be disappointed. To counter this you have to go outside spin around 3 times while saying blasphemy.
Cheers for now.

Hey fellas it's Rambo here again!
The blog that i have most recently read was called BOOKS FOR BOYS and was written by an author called Max.
I think that Max has started his blog to tell people about his work which is advertising books to young boys.
I think that the slogan "readers are the leaders others follow" means that if lots of kids are reading that the kids that dont will think it is cool and join or follow on.
I think that this blog has been designed so that anyone can read and enjoy the blog. More so i think that Max has designed this blog for older teenagers and parents who may want to find out more about his work or learn about some of the books that he is talking about.
The entry that i read was written on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 and was called ,Speaking in Indiana.
This entry was about max's visit to a school where he talked to 90 year 5 students on friday the 13th. The mix in with the day Max talked about some scary books and played some scary music. Max then also had the childeren write a story of their won and read it out.
There was not any particular piece of information that i found very interesting during this blog but it was a very well rounded piece of writing that was quite interesting..
I did not feel inclined to post a response on Max's site because it was quite a popular blog and had many comments as it was. I also felt that Max had explained everything very well and that i did not need to ask him any questions.
Well thats it for now thanks for looking at my blog!

Finding a novel
To find a novel in a library or any sort of book store i have a certain technique. When i first enter the store or library and i do not know what type of book im looking for i usually look at what is new. If i cannot find anything there that tickles my fancy i will then usually head twoard a sports section or look in a catalogue for action or sports books that i think i would enjoy. If all else fails i will then browse shelves and ask for help but this can take up time and i do not like to waste it in libraries when i could be outside. I use this type of order to find a book as it usually works for me and i normally find a book i would enjoy in the new releases or a sports book i like.
I think that this technique for me is very successful and i judge this by how long it takes me to get a book and also how much i enjoy it. the order that i look at the books makes sure that i look at my favourites first.
I chose the book that i am reading now because it was in the recommended list and i am quite sure that i would reccommend this to other readers of my age.
I would go about reccommending this book by placing it on a popular shelf that is closest to the front door because most boys of my age grab the closest book to them. also bright colours near the book shelf may draw more boys twoard it.
Thanks for reading.

Muntant
Hey everyone Rambo here,
The story that i have recently been reading is Mutant by Theresa Breslin.
The story that i have recently been reading is Mutant by Theresa Breslin.
The main character of this story a bloke called Brad who is in his 20's and works at a clone unit. He is a medium sized man but is not overlay tall. Brad works with the Professor, Rob the security man and a girl called Jade who Brad really likes. Brad is in charge with doing research in a cloning unit lab and is almost killed when someone locks him in the locker room and sets it on fire. After this Brad sets out to find who is trying to sabotage his teams work. This story is of Brad being Narrated as it does not use "I" when referring to Brad.
The Author created the character Brad after reading an article in a newspaper about "Dolly" the first cloned sheep. Theresa believed, in her personal comment in the front of the book, that if she cloned something it would have been something much more exciting than a sheep and therefore came up with the idea of cloning humans in which Brad is involved. I think that the Author wanted brad to be a male because many males work in research labs and also because then she could write about a romance in the novel, also perhaps she had felt the same way about a male that she worked with when she was younger. I think that she used bard as a twenty year old as it is an age where most people like to imagine a character and because this story is written for teenagers it would be easy to relate to.
If Brad was to become a female in this story the main thing that would have to change would be that she would have a crush on a male instead of a female. Besides this the story could easily function the same as Brad did not do anything out of the ordinary.
Well thats it for now i hope that you like my report enough to get out and read the book!
thanks for looking. Rambo.

Hey Fellas its Rambo (jack.r)
Today im going to talk about the differences between a online blog and a diary, I think that the reason that people such as myself would rather have a online blog than a diary is that it is much easier to use and update than a diary. Also with all the cool new back grounds and effects you can personalize the blog so its like no-one else's. Also with a blog you can ask people questions and receive answers where as in a diary you cannot do this. The form of a blog differs in many different ways to a diary especially in the way it is written. In a blog you do more than just recount the days events you can ask other people how they would go about solving your problems as well as tell people how you fixed your problems in which they might be having. A blog also differs from a diary in that it is written for many people to view and not just the writer. I have just recently read a blog written by a Lisa Fields on her life in general with the latest blog being on how she has just recently been excepted into Pintara Books as an illustrator. Lisa has quite a community of readers and regularly receives comments from a person called Manuel Larino. Lisa usually updates her blog once or twice a month depending on how much work she has(or so she says) and you can find her blog at Blogger.com .
Thats all i have time for once again but thanks for looking!

Hey Fellas! Just Jack.R. again writing to tell you about a few books i read recently,
The first of the two books that i recently read is called "Ship Of Ghosts" and was written by Nigel Hinton. This story is apart of the Barrington Stoke book collection and i quite enjoyed it.
The story was about a young boy(Mick) who grew up near some shipping docks in england. The boy never knew his father but had heard about him being a sailor from his mother, this made Mick also want to be a sailor and he dropped out of school to join the crew of a local cargo ship as the assistant cook and cleaner. Mick worked for his Captain Glenn who was cursed for killing his best friend and eventually also dies when Mick and the rest of the crew push him out of the ship during a storm.
The second story is called "Dead Red" and was written by the fabulous Ruth Starke. The story belongs to the Crime Waves collection and was an interesting read.
The story is about Angelo Martinelli or Angel for short and his crime fighting team who need to solve the reason why the schools cricket team vomited after eating the canteen curry pies. If Angel and his detective crew don't find out who spiked the pies and why The school may never be the same.
I believe that each book had something to like about it as well as something to not like about it. The first book i read called "Ship of Ghosts" was very good in the way in which it was written and the slow build up the occurred throughout the story until the Captain was murdered. Another plus about this story was that it was very easy to picture the conditions faced and the joys of being a teenager at sea. The second story Dead Red was a great read as a school type thriller and was very good in showing how the young kids went about solving the mystery of the spiked curry pies. I enjoyed the story as it was easy to follow how the Detectives were about the solve the mystery and also gave an insight into things that may just appear as a coincidence may have more to it.
I don't believe that anything could have been done to either of the books to make them better as they both were a very good read and were straight forward. The only small criticism i have for the Dead Red story was that perhaps at the end the Author could have explained what happened to the principal after the detectives found out about what he had done and if he was fired.
The short story would have to be one of my favorite kinds of stories to read they are short get to the point very quickly which is good for us readers who can get distracted from a book easily and you don't have to read huge amounts of pages to get the story line. So my belief therefore is that the short story is better for a reader such as myself but if i really enjoyed the short story and wanted to find more about the topic i would definitely go for a novel.
I would also select from the short story collection for the reasons that i have stated above.
Thanks alot for reading!

Hi my name is Steph Rat 13,
I have never been much of a reader. I do not know why but it has never been a past time that i have been interested in enough to really get into it. I think it is because i am more of an outdoors person who enjoys being social and playing sports that sitting inside and reading. I think that once i get into a book i am quite a fast reader and capable of reading quite big books but i find it very hard to begin books because they are very slow and i find myself uninterested. My favourite book that i have every read would have to be "the race to dakar" by Charley Boorman and is a diary kept by the Author about his experience in competing in the Dakar rally on a motorbike. In my family we are encouraged to read but i have never found this very interesting. I would have to say that my favourite type of books would have to be action books. This is me as a reader thanks for looking.
